• At Dell, we work collaboratively to find solutions to global environmental issues. That’s why we work across our supply chain to address water stress, water quality, and waste. We want to do our absolute best to improve our own water usage as well as that of our suppliers. We also have a commitment to zero waste which extends all the way to our customers.

      WATER

      Managing our water-related footprint

      Water stress and water quality are two of the most important global issues of the 21st century. That's why we aim to fully understand, manage and minimize our water-related footprint.

    • Dell’s own water use

      Our offices focus on efficiency programs to reduce water use – everything from reduced irrigation and low-water landscaping to rainwater harvesting and greywater use.

      For our direct operations, we focus our water conservation efforts in regions with water scarcity concerns. Our Dell-operated facilities in India are a great example: each of them has an on-site wastewater treatment plant because nearby cities lack central treatment facilities.

    • Beyond Dell and across the supply chain

      Strong water stewardship is important to us. In 2014, we surveyed our suppliers’ water usage to gain a better insight. This allowed us to map our supply chain both against water use-intensity and geographic water stress. We also developed a toolkit for helping our suppliers monitor and manage their usage.

      Collaboration is essential when it comes to reducing our environmental impact. We work together to improve conditions for people and planet across the supply chain. For example, we convened our suppliers and other local stakeholders around Lake Taihu in China to address water quality issues more holistically.

      Waste

      Our commitment to zero

      Zero waste is an ethical and cost-efficient approach that all manufacturers should employ. Dell’s zero waste guiding principles, and the strategies we execute to follow them, are bringing us closer to a truly waste-free process – and a circular economy.

       

    • Minimizing waste

      Dell employs highly efficient manufacturing and operational processes that reduce waste. For example, our global manufacturing and fulfillment facilities continue to maintain a high recycle and reuse rate of around 99 percent of non-hazardous solid waste.

    • Upstream and downstream

      Dell aims for waste avoidance upstream via our supply chain and downstream via our customers and beyond.

      This extends to our customers, too. We make Dell technology equipment easy to repair in order to extend its life, and easy to recycle to ensure materials are kept out of landfills.
