EMC Corporation, a dedicated supporter of the Deutsche Bank Championship since becoming a Founders Club partner in 2003 and later a local presenting sponsor, will elevate its role to become title sponsor of the FedExCup Playoffs tournament beginning in 2017.
The tournament will continue as the second of four FedExCup Playoffs events with its traditional Monday finish on Labor Day weekend at TPC Boston. The official name of the tournament will be announced at a later date.
“We are very pleased to introduce EMC as the incoming title sponsor after lending such strong support as both a Founders Club partner and a local presenting sponsor of the Deutsche Bank Championship since the tournament’s inception in 2003,” said PGA TOUR Deputy Commissioner Jay Monahan. “As a locally based company, we have seen how committed and engaged EMC has been and how important the tournament is to their leadership team. We are confident the tournament will continue to build upon the significant success that has been achieved over the past 14 years.”

The Deutsche Bank Championship was originally introduced in 2003 as the PGA TOUR returned to the Boston market for the first time since the last New England Classic was held in in 1998. With the introduction of the FedExCup in 2007, the Deutsche Bank Championship was elevated to its current position as the second FedExCup Playoffs event. In 2012, Deutsche Bank signed a four-year renewal, extending its sponsor commitment to this 14th and final year.

Rickie Fowler opens his Deutsche Bank Championship title defense tomorrow with a field of 98 players who advanced from The Barclays last week, the first of four FedExCup Playoffs events. Last year, Fowler edged Henrik Stenson by one stroke to claim his third career PGA TOUR victory. The top 70 players in FedExCup points from this week will advance to the BMW Championship outside Indianapolis, where the final field of 30 will be established for the FedExCup finale, the TOUR Championship in Atlanta.
