EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC) today announced that at 1:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, February 12, 2015, Krish Gupta, SVP and Deputy General Counsel at EMC will testify before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet. The hearing will examine recent Supreme Court cases in the patent arena and H.R. 9, the Innovation Act of 2015, which takes major steps toward curbing patent litigation abuse. As an invited witness, Gupta will testify before the Subcommittee on a panel comprised of legal and industry experts.
“While helpful, recent Supreme Court case law does not correct the core problems of patent litigation abuse. Patent litigation reform is needed to restore confidence and balance in our patent system so that hardworking companies of all sizes are protected from abusive and unfair legal tactics. I look forward to testifying on Thursday about the recent Supreme Court decisions and the need for the Innovation Act of 2015. EMC applauds the introduction of the bipartisan Innovation Act and believes strongly that these important legislative reforms continue to be necessary to protect the patent system and spur innovation and competition,” said Gupta in a statement prior to the testimony.
Panel testimony will take place at 1:00 p.m. ET at the 2141 Rayburn House Office Building. A live stream of the hearing will be available through the House Judiciary website via http://judiciary.house.gov/. As of the distribution of this media alert, plans for live broadcast coverage are being finalized, which may include C-SPAN.
