EMC Named Among World s Best Multinational Workplaces

Recognized for career opportunities, flexible environment, and collaborative, results-based culture

    HOPKINTON, Mass - October 23, 2014 -

EMC (NYSE: EMC) today announced it was named #18 on the “World’s Best Multinational Workplaces” list, marking EMC’s first appearance on the globally recognized ranking. The list, compiled by the Great Place to Work Institute, an internationally recognized global research firm, ranks the 25 best global companies based on five key dimensions of workplace culture: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.

EMC was recognized by the Great Place to Work Institute for creating a workplace built on trust, as rated by employees in multiple countries.  The company received high marks from employees for providing ongoing professional opportunities and career development; promoting a flexible, friendly environment; and recognizing employees’ collaborative, cohesive energy towards achieving and exceeding results.

Always planning and investing to create a culture of engagement, EMC has a portfolio of initiatives to reinforce and evolve a strong corporate culture, including:

    • EMC Innovation Roadmap: The annual competition allows business units and functions to post “challenges” representing EMC’s most pressing business opportunities. The competition solicits innovative solutions from any employee. In 2013, 28 countries submitted more than 4,400 ideas.
    • EMC Gives Back: In 2014, EMC energized and mobilized volunteerism through two companywide focus efforts to provide clean water and alleviate hunger. In addition, employees received three days per year to volunteer for their choice of causes, and in recognition of their annual service anniversary, EMC now makes a donation to a charity of their choice.
    • Learning & Development: Developing employees is essential to EMC’s continued innovation. The company offers a tailored learning path for all employees, comprising a robust portfolio of more than 8,000 custom-developed courses and learning opportunities. In 2013, 78% of employees had an Individual Development Plan in place and the average employee participated in more than 50 hours of training.
    • Leadership in the Fast Lane: Each year, this program connects high potential women to those already in senior leadership roles and offers an accelerated program of career development.  Participants are provided with customized 360 assessments and personal coaching. Fast Lane supports EMC’s objective of building a significant pipeline of talented women for senior positions to meet current and future business needs.
    • “You Define EMC”: In 2014, EMC launched a worldwide initiative aimed at highlighting how each employee contributes to EMC’s success. This personal and interactive program shrinks the distance between the company’s global locations and strengthens dialogue and connections between EMC employees throughout the world.

EMC’s ranking is based on inclusion on 17 national Great Place to Work lists from around the world, including: Austria, China, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UAE, and UK.
