CORK, Ireland - June 13, 2013 -
EMC® today announced the creation of 200 highly skilled jobs and the opening of a new EMC office as part of a fresh €100 million investment in Ireland. The new full-time positions, spanning engineering, customer support, sales, finance, research and development and IT, will be based in a new EMC office in Citygate, Mahon, Co Cork, scheduled to open in August 2013.
The announcement was made by the Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD, and the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, with David Goulden, EMC’s President and Chief Operating Officer, during an event celebrating EMC’s 25 years in Ireland at EMC’s Centre of Excellence in Cork.
EMC has begun recruiting for the new positions and expects to have the majority of them filled by the end of 2013. The company employs approximately 3,000 people in Ireland who play a critical role in supporting its global growth strategy, focused on cloud computing, Big Data and trusted IT.
The project has been supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.
The Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD
“The Government welcomes EMC’s investment which builds on the company’s 25-year record of success in Ireland. The addition of 200 high-value jobs in Cork will be another boost for the region as we continue on the road to economic recovery. The commitment of EMC to Ireland is laudable as the company continues to develop new, innovative products and services for world markets and positions Ireland as the vanguard of innovation. EMC is making a valued contribution to Ireland’s economy and our recovery, and the company’s focus on cloud and Big Data aligns well with the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs.”
The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD
“A key part of the Government’s plans for jobs and growth is targeting growth in the ICT sector and, in the two years since we have taken office, we have seen substantial increases in employment in this sector. Central to this are the high-growth areas of cloud and Big Data and, through the Action Plan for Jobs, we have put in place measures specifically to support growth in these sectors. Today’s announcement by EMC, a world-leading company in this area, that it is expanding its operations in Cork, with the creation of 200 additional jobs, is great news for the sector and for Ireland.”
The Minister for Research and Innovation, Seán Sherlock TD
“As Minister for Research and Innovation, I am particularly pleased to see research and development among the positions to be filled. EMC’s partnership with third-level institutions on cloud, Big Data and data centre transformation research programmes fits perfectly with the Government’s efforts to support effective collaborations between companies and third-level researchers. It is about taking the best skills available and using them with the best companies.”
Barry O’Leary, Chief Executive of IDA Ireland
“EMC is a central player in Ireland’s IT cluster, and we are keen to support the company’s growth, particularly in cloud and Big Data - key areas identified in IDA Ireland’s strategy, ‘Horizon 2020’. The jobs are a strong signal to the international investment community that Ireland is a centre for innovation and leading-edge business activity.”
David Goulden, EMC’s President and Chief Operating Officer
“EMC’s investment in Ireland is key to our global growth strategy which is focused on three of the most important drivers in IT for enterprise customers - cloud, Big Data and trusted IT. Cork is a critical innovation hub in EMC’s Centre of Excellence network, and our investment in Ireland demonstrates our long-term commitment to the country.”
Bob Savage, Vice-President and Managing Director, EMC Centre of Excellence
