HOPKINTON, Mass - July 23, 2012 -
EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC) today announced that the City of Sacramento, Calif. has transformed its legislative process with EMC® Documentum® xCP, an integrated platform for building dynamic business solutions and an action engine for Big Data. As part of the transformation, the City responded to City Council directives by re-engineering its legislative review process with an EMC solution featuring advanced business process management (BPM), enterprise content management (ECM), intelligent capture and records management capabilities. With Documentum xCP, the City has saved money and increased visibility, efficiency and accessibility to the public.
- Significant Cost Savings via Paperless Environment – The City significantly reduced operational costs and its carbon footprint by eliminating paper filing systems, off-site storage, and processes which resulted in over $500,000 savings in a year.
- Increased Visibility – Established Documentum xCP as the foundation for the City's Automated Legislative Document Review System, providing a collaborative environment with full audit trail of all process activities and enhancing transparency across all City departments. Legislative documents such as Council materials are delivered digitally with enhanced navigation and are publically accessible on the City's website within hours of being finalized.
- Increased Productivity and Operational Efficiency – By automating critical business processes including Legislative Document Review and Public Record Act requests, the City has increased agility and saved tens of thousands of staff hours a year associated with searching, printing, and inter-office approvals. Previous manual paper processes prevented efficient collaboration and was prone to errors.
Customer Challenges and Solution:
Today's global economy and citizen service priorities have required government agencies like the City of Sacramento to provide "full service" visibility. Citizens want to interact with their government in more open and direct ways, creating new opportunities and challenges for elected and public-serving officials. To address these demands, Sacramento Mayor and Council Member directives enhance efficiency, transparency and accountability across all levels of city government.
In deploying Documentum xCP, the City established systems to better manage processes throughout the city with consistent auditable information. The legislative review process, automated critical business processes and document repository also provided greater accessibility of information to citizens. The countless staff hours saved by electronically preparing, reviewing, distributing, tracking, and approving documents are now directed toward other public services. Documentum xCP also includes document retention services to configure disposition policies across all content types to meet compliance requirements and save storage costs.
