EMC Helps Blue Diamond Solutions Deliver Cloud Based Backup

EMC Avamar Chosen as the Standard for Hosted Cloud Service Provider to Deliver Cost-effective Next Generation Backup and Recovery

    HOPKINTON, Mass. - April 06, 2011 -

EMC® Corporation (NYSE:EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, announced today that New Jersey-based hosted cloud solutions provider Blue Diamond Solutions (BDS) has chosen EMC Avamar® deduplication backup software and systems to deliver next generation disk-based backup capabilities to its customers. The inherent simplicity, low bandwidth consumption and advanced automation of Avamar is a perfect match for the BDS model, which rapidly advances customers' IT capabilities by providing on-demand cloud-based services for offsite backup, server virtualization, and desktop virtualization.

As more information technology managers pursue cloud-based computing models, there is a growing demand for offsite backup of both traditional and virtualized data stores. EMC Avamar dramatically reduces the bandwidth demands associated with replication of backup data between sites, enabling managed service providers to address the backup window timing requirements of their customers. At the same time, highly reliable recoveries from disk are achieved, giving users confidence in their ability to rapidly restore data and meet individual compliance requirements.

Bill Crank, CEO of Blue Diamond Solutions, said "Most of our customers are in the mid-tier, with multiple terabytes of data. We've found there aren't a lot of solutions for them that are both effective and cost efficient. We're typically taking them away from a tape-based scenario, where some actually know that they can't effectively recover their data. We've partnered with EMC to provide our infrastructure, and with EMC's assistance we've created an offsite backup scenario that is easy for our channel to sell and simple for our customers to use."

Deployment of Avamar at a Blue Diamond Solutions customer site is straightforward. Avamar is installed at the customer site and the replication of backups to an Avamar Data Store grid at Blue Diamond's data center hub is initiated. BDS uses EMC Data Protection Advisor as a reporting and chargeback tool, enabling a "pay-as-you-grow" model for customers.

"The cloud hosting and managed service provider market and the continued explosion of server virtualization are opportunities for Avamar backup software to help accelerate the adoption of next generation backup and recovery," said Rob Emsley, Senior Director of Product Marketing for EMC's Backup Recovery Systems division. "Blue Diamond Solutions is leveraging a suite of progressive technologies and expertise to deliver an IT-as-a-service model that gives small and mid-sized and companies access to enterprise style infrastructure and capabilities they might not have the resources to achieve themselves."
