Leading Analyst Firm Recognizes EMC with Strong Positive Rating In MarketScope Report For Enterprise Records Management

EMC Documentum Records Management Solution Provides Broadest Range of Flexible Options to Enable a Unified Records and Retention Management Strategy

    Hopkinton, Mass. - September 14, 2010 -

EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced it has received the highest possible rating of “strong positive” in Gartner, Inc.’s new report, “MarketScope for Enterprise Records Management†.”

In its report, Gartner defines a company with a strong positive rating as “a provider of strategic products, services or solutions.” For current customers, Gartner recommends continuing with planned investments. For potential customers, Gartner recommends they consider the vendor as a strong choice for strategic investments.

The EMC® Documentum® Records Management solution leverages both automation and human judgement to optimize record retention decisions and simplifies management of physical, e-mail and electronic documents across multiple systems. The solution includes key products such as EMC Documentum Retention Policy Services, EMC Documentum Records Manager, EMC Documentum Physical Records Services and EMC Documentum Federated Records Services. Its modular architecture enables customers to deploy as little or as much functionality as needed.

Retention Policy Services is a time- and event-based retention and disposition engine that is completely automated and transparent to users. Records Manager provides formal records management and allows companies to meet stringent government standards including DoD 5015.2-STD v3 today and in the future MoReq2010. In addition, Records Manager has certified integrations with EMC SourceOne Email Management and EMC Centera® content addressed storage system to provide customers with a comprehensive records management solution. Records Manager is also fully unified with EMC Documentum enterprise content management allowing organizations to apply records management policies consistently across an unlimited range of content sources.

Physical Records Services extends the solution to manage paper, microfiche, tape and other types of physical records alongside electronic records. Federated Records Services extends retention management capabilities to additional repositories, including Documentum and other third-party systems, to provide a single system of record for business content, regardless of location or system.

“As legal, regulatory and governance requirements for document retention become more stringent, it is now more important than ever for companies to have a solid strategy in place to comply in full with records-keeping and retention mandates,” said Jeff Bettencourt, Vice President and General Manager of Information Governance, Information Intelligence Group,* a division of EMC. “We believe that Gartner’s strong positive rating further confirms our strategy of helping customers flexibly manage their information throughout the entire corporate records lifecycle for good information governance and complete regulatory compliance.”
