    HOPKINTON, Mass. - February 11, 2010 -

EMC®Corporation (NYSE:EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced it is expanding its efforts to help customers accelerate their journey to Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 implementations and build actionable information governance strategies.  Exchange 2010-ready, EMC SourceOne™ solutions further extend the archiving, retention, and e-discovery features of Exchange 2010, allowing organizations to manage their e-mail and other data efficiently and cost effectively while ensuring that all information is protected and available.

EMC SourceOne solutions – when combined with EMC services – also help customers conduct successful upgrades to Exchange 2010.  EMC is able to take the large volume of PST files and e-mail that has had little or no activity from Exchange 2003 and 2007 -- which typically occupy large volumes of storage – and place them into the EMC SourceOne business archive prior to upgrade.  In doing so, inactive messages are archived for long-term preservation and less needs to be moved to Exchange 2010, dramatically facilitating migration.

“With customers today facing increasingly stringent legal and regulatory standards, the need for comprehensive, policy-based management strategies to enforce retention, disposition and long-term preservation of e-mail is no longer a ‘nice-to-have’ but a ‘must-have.’  Customers are realizing they need to build out their information governance strategies without delay  -- helping them manage and preserve the growing volume of e-mail to meet compliance, regulatory and good business practice requirements,” said Sheila Childs, Research Director, Gartner.

EMC SourceOne Email Management is Exchange 2010-ready and is an ideal “business archive” for Exchange 2010.  Retention policies can be automatically enforced so messages are saved as long as necessary (and no longer).  The solution delivers seamless access to archived e-mail and archived PST files while users are offline, within the Microsoft Outlook Web App and on mobile devices.  SourceOne Email Management is designed to reduce the costs and improve operational efficiency of Exchange 2010 by introducing single-instance storage for messages in the archive, automating the movement of messages to the appropriate storage tier based on the value of the information, and reducing backup and recovery times.

EMC SourceOne eDiscovery – Kazeon® is one of the industry’s most comprehensive e-discovery solutions for Exchange 2010 and all enterprise content.  The solution automates the identification, collection and preservation of electronically stored information (ESI) that resides “in the wild,” including user desktops, network file shares, databases and in Exchange mailboxes.  Investigators can tag items for legal hold, securing the ESI and retaining it in a protected repository.  SourceOne eDiscovery – Kazeon goes beyond mailbox search by creating repeatable e-discovery processes, thus reducing cost and risk and enabling good information governance and litigation readiness.

Together, SourceOne Email Management and SourceOne eDiscovery – Kazeon work together to provide customers with:

    • A consolidated, centrally-managed business archive
    • Improved backup and recovery of e-mail through the business archive
    • Enforcement and management of retention and disposition policies for Exchange 2010 e-mail and other data types
    • E-discovery readiness for Exchange 2010 e-mail and other file types, including PST files from earlier versions of Microsoft Exchange.
    • An easier, smoother transition to Exchange 2010

“Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 helps users be more productive and reduces the costs associated with creating and sharing information,” said Julia White, director of Microsoft Exchange Product Management at Microsoft Corp. “Partners are important to our success and, by building on the features and functionality in Microsoft Exchange 2010, EMC helps ensure the Exchange platform meets the needs of all customers.”

“EMC SourceOne helps companies deal with their most pressing information governance issues – e-discovery, operational efficiency and compliance – in a modular way,” said Jeff Bettencourt, Vice President and General Manager of Information Governance Product Group, Content Management and Archiving Division at EMC.  “As one of the leading information governance solutions for Microsoft Exchange 2010, EMC SourceOne lays the groundwork for organizations to build successful, long-term strategies for good e-mail governance.”

To complement EMC SourceOne archiving and e-discovery products for Exchange 2010 -- and to build complete, actionable information governance strategies that incorporate tiered storage management, planning services and deployment -- EMC also offers the following:
