EMC Provides Automated Document Management Solution to Legal Services Provider

Corporation Service Company Leverages Unified EMC® Software and Hardware Platform to Replace Inefficient Paper Processes and Improve Customer Service

    Hopkinton, Mass. - June 06, 2007 -

EMC Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced that Corporation Service Company® (CSC), a leading provider of legal and financial services to corporations and law firms, has increased efficiency and improved customer service by replacing its manual paper processes with a comprehensive document and content management infrastructure from EMC. CSC® is benefiting from an electronic litigation management system created by the combination of EMC Captiva® InputAccel® document capture software, EMC Documentum® enterprise content management platform and EMC Centera® active archive storage, all integrated with a proprietary application. The unified capture, content management and storage platform has reduced the time needed for processing critical business documents and has improved customer access to information.

"The EMC platform has become the backbone of our business, by enabling the automation of so many formerly paper-based processes and driving efficiencies throughout the organization," said Bettina Tweardy Riveros, Director of Product Development at CSC. "As a result, the CSC service team is able to deliver a higher level of service to our clients."

As the legal representative of its client companies, CSC offices throughout the country receive service of process (SOP) documents, such as court summons and subpoenas, on behalf of its clients who are involved in legal proceedings.

Previously, each of CSC's offices manually processed all incoming paper SOP documents. With the EMC platform, each office now scans incoming SOPs and electronically captures the information from the paper documents using the InputAccel software and a proprietary CSC system. InputAccel then uploads the digital content into the Documentum enterprise content management (ECM) platform, which provides a central repository for managing the SOP documents as well as the workflows involved in their processing and delivery to customers. After a specified period of time, the Documentum system automatically moves the SOP to an EMC Centera storage system.

CSC leverages the EMC Captiva Input Management Console for centralized performance monitoring of the document capture system. The Input Management Console provides insight into the distributed capture process through real-time performance alerts that help eliminate system down-time and provide easier administration.

The combined capture, content management and storage solution from EMC has replaced CSC's manual processes and reduced SOP processing times to less than 24 hours. The improved efficiencies can have a direct impact on their clients’ response time to legal proceedings.

In addition to increasing efficiency, the document capture and content management solution has improved customer access to information. CSC takes advantage of Documentum's ability to provide a structured and secure environment for clients to manage all documents pertaining to a specific case.

"The EMC platform provides a more scalable solution and a much more robust set of management tools for our clients," said Riveros. "Now, they can instantly view their SOP in CSC's litigation management system, upload other classes of documents for broad matter management capabilities, and coordinate across the corporate legal department and with outside law firms."

"CSC is a great example of how companies can eliminate process inefficiencies and improve client service through the use of a comprehensive information infrastructure from EMC for managing content from capture to archive," said Balaji Yelamanchili, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Content Management & Archiving at EMC.

CSC plans to expand the transactional content management solution to other business applications, including compliance and governance solutions and UCC services.
