EMC Unveils Automated Disaster Restart Software for Geographically Dispersed Mainframe Environments

EMC® Geographically Dispersed Disaster Restart Solution Automates Remote Restart Operations for Improved Information Protection and Availability

TAMPA, Florida (SHARE User Event) - February 12, 2007 -

EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today unveiled new software that automates comprehensive failover and restart operations in multi-site IBM mainframe environments. With EMC® Geographically Dispersed Disaster Restart (EMC GDDR) software, customers can take a holistic approach to automatically restarting host mainframe systems, critical applications and Symmetrix® DMX storage systems to enhance information availability and minimize the impact of unplanned or planned outages.

Building on EMC's market-leading information protection expertise, EMC GDDR software is faster to deploy, easier to manage and up to 50% less expensive than existing solutions. Competitive offerings typically require lengthy planning processes, complex custom scripting, extended debug and test periods, and expensive, long term service contracts. EMC GDDR software delivers the highest levels of availability and assures automated restart consistency across applications and implementation methodologies via a proven, standardized software product.

"As the world's largest provider of domestic and cross-border securities settlement and related services, the high availability of our mission-critical IT systems is a fundamental requirement of Euroclear," said Michael Pilkington, Managing Director and Head of Corporate Technology at Euroclear. "Leveraging EMC GDDR, we have taken the availability of our information infrastructure to a new level, providing greater assurance that we will be able to continue delivering our services to clients, even during very severe business-disruption scenarios."

"EMC's long heritage of expertise and continued investment in mainframe storage technology has yielded a comprehensive new multi-site restart solution that delivers clear value and simplicity," said David Donatelli, EMC Executive Vice President, Storage Product Operations. "With EMC GDDR, we're providing IBM mainframe customers with a cost-effective solution that enables them to meet stringent recovery time objectives and enhance the reliability of their restart and recovery operations while helping to relieve associated IT resource constraints."

EMC GDDR software improves the availability of host systems, applications, and storage resources via standardized, parameter driven software, protecting multi-site mainframe environments against unplanned outages. Additionally, customers can leverage EMC GDDR software to automate failover operations during planned outages such as maintenance operations and upgrades, and test their disaster restart operations without writing, verifying, and maintaining custom scripts.

"Enterprise customers are asking for simplified, standardized disaster restart and recovery functionality that enhances information and system availability across their critical operations," said Carl Greiner, Senior Vice President, Infrastructure for the Software and IT Services Group, Ovum. "With this new solution, EMC is providing mainframe customers with a new level of automation, protection and management agility, and in so doing, is expanding the market for this critical functionality."

EMC GDDR software for Symmetrix DMX storage system customers with three-site mainframe configurations will be available in Q1 2007 from EMC and its worldwide network of partners.
