Clarian Health Partners Chooses EMC Corporation for Triage of Its Core IT Infrastructure

EMC Smarts Software Helps Leading Health Care Organization Ensure Quality and Consistency of Doctor/Patient Services

    Hopkinton, - May 04, 2005 -

EMC Corporation, the world leader in information storage and management, today announced that Clarian Health Partners has chosen EMC Smarts software as the core analysis and impact engine for its highly distributed IT infrastructure. Clarian a consolidated health care organization composed of Methodist Hospital, Indiana University Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children will leverage a range of Smarts solutions to gain unprecedented insight into the quality and consistency of health services running on its networked infrastructure.

With Smarts, Clarian is able to gain at-a-glance insight into network and application resources and assess how their health affects critical services such as patient registration and intake, medical history and pharmacy management. By leveraging Smarts' Common Information Model across IT and business domains, together with Smarts' patented Codebook Correlation Technology to quickly detect faults across the network, systems and applications, Clarian has dramatically increased the efficiency of its IT processes, reducing both the time and effort necessary to resolve network problems.

"With EMC Smarts, we found a highly automated approach to IT services insight," said Greg Finch, Information Systems Director, Clarian Health Partners. "This approach gives us deep visibility into the performance of our networks and core applications, enabling us to isolate and repair problems with ease. Thanks to Smarts, we now understand how IT problems impact health services and how we can resolve those problems before they affect delivery of quality health care."

With EMC Smarts Business Impact Manager, Clarian automatically calculates the impact of network and application issues on business and clinical services. Leveraging EMC Smarts Service Assurance Manager, Clarian integrates and correlates management information from multiple sources. Service Assurance Manager integrates directly with the EMC Smarts Business Dashboard to provide end-to-end visibility into the network, application and business environments.

Taking this functionality one step further, EMC Smarts Application Insight correlates application performance with the health of Clarian's network, systems and software processes -- pinpointing root-cause problems before they occur. Finally, EMC Smarts IP Availability Manager enables the company to quickly auto-discover details of its IT network, diagnosing the root cause of Layer 2 and Layer 3 problems that could prove disruptive.

"For distributed health organizations, the network is truly the heart of their business," said Chris Gahagan, Senior Vice President, EMC Software. "Leveraging the intelligent insight provided by EMC Smarts, Clarian immediately realizes such benefits as improved quality of service, reduced operational costs and faster launch of new services. The result is a more effective organization that is better able to compete in the competitive health care marketplace."

Clarian Health Partners is an Indiana-based, private, non-profit organization offering a broad base of tertiary services, specialized pediatric care and a Level 1 Trauma Center. Clarian is Indiana's largest, most comprehensive health center and is one of the busiest hospital systems in the nation. In 2004, Clarian became Indiana's first magnet hospital system.
