EMC and Alteon Boeing Win CM RealWare Award for Best Enterprise Content Management Solution

12th Annual Intelligent Enterprise RealWare Awards Recognize Outstanding Customer IT Applications

    Hopkinton, - December 20, 2004 -

EMC Corporation, the world leader in information storage and management, today announced that CMP Media's Intelligent Enterprise magazine has named EMC and its customer, Alteon, a fully owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, as winners of the 12th Annual RealWare Awards for the best Enterprise Content Management application.

Selected by editors of Intelligent Enterprise and its sister publication, Transform , the awards recognize outstanding customer IT applications that meet strategic business objectives and deliver return on investment (ROI). RealWare Awards highlight the essential partnerships between IT solution providers, their customers, and service and system integration providers.

A subsidiary of Boeing, Alteon is the first truly global aviation training company specializing in flight and maintenance training for commercial aircraft with 100 seats or more. For Boeing to deliver an aircraft to a customer, related training manuals must be complete and adhere to all relevant Federal Aviation Administration requirements. Using the EMC Documentum Enterprise Content Management platform, Alteon developed an innovative solution to produce training manuals as needed and ship them to training locations around the world, saving valuable time and money. 10,000 page manuals that used to take many days to produce, now take about 20 minutes. Alteon estimates that the Documentum solution has paid for itself in less than 18 months, and the company is saving almost $3 million annually in system maintenance costs.

David Beyers, Business System Manager, Alteon, said, "The EMC Documentum platform has enabled us to create new training products and comply with industry regulations faster and more efficiently, while simultaneously saving Alteon millions in maintenance and other costs."

David Milam, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of EMC Software, said, "Winning a RealWare Award is especially gratifying because it rewards solutions that deliver measurable impact, like return on investment. Like Alteon, thousands of global customers rely on EMC's best-in-class enterprise content management solutions to save money, accelerate business processes, maximize operational efficiencies and comply with government and industry regulations. We're honored to share this award with such a valued customer."
