EMC Extends Traditional Learning Management Systems with EMC Documentum Learning Services

At Momentum, the EMC content management user conference, EMC Corporation, the world leader in information storage and management, today announced the availability of EMC Documentum Learning Services, an extension of the EMC Documentum Enterprise Content Management platform that provides interoperability with third-party Learning Management Systems (LMS) and a variety of learning content authoring tools. Documentum Learning Services enables organizations to unify learning initiatives and reduce the overall associated costs by managing and storing all learning content in a centralized repository and leveraging content services provided by the Documentum platform.

Through the EMC Documentum Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Program, which helps ISVs deliver Documentum-based offerings that are tailored to industry-specific requirements, EMC is working with three leading LMS vendors – Pathlore Software Corporation, Plateau Systems and THINQ Learning Solutions, to deliver integrated learning solutions. The Documentum platform is widely recognized as the leading enterprise content management platform for application development, with hundreds of applications widely used for critical business processes.

To increase employee knowledge, accelerate productivity and comply and remain current with industry regulations, companies across all industries are embracing learning management systems to handle student registrations, track student progress and record test scores. Many companies, however, often deploy standalone LMS or homegrown systems that can not scale to meet the demands of growing enterprises or not properly manage evolving content. By integrating the Documentum platform and traditional learning management systems through the Documentum Learning Services solution, customers have a complete, full range of end-to-end eLearning infrastructure with a single platform, centralized repository and content services, including version control, security and workflows.

Documentum Learning Services is compliant with the Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) standard, which enables learning content creators to store and manage all learning content in the Documentum platform, and with Package Exchange Notification Services (PENS), a key interoperability standard for learning management systems.
