EMC LEGATO Automated Availability Manager Chosen for SQL Server Magazine Readers Choice Award

    Hopkinton, - Thursday, September 9, 2004

    Hopkinton, - September 09, 2004 -

EMC Corporation, the world leader in information storage and management, today announced its EMC Legato Automated Availability Manager (AAM) product was selected a winner in the Best Clustering/Load Balancing Tool category of the SQL Server Magazine Readers' Choice Awards.

Legato AAM automates the availability of applications and data. The solution monitors the health and performance of applications, alerts customers when resources begin to run out, re-provisions and restarts services when failures occur, and automates process control and data management. As a result, AAM enables customers to reduce the costs, complexities and risks of managing their businesses. Companies and organizations such as the U.S. Pentagon Renovation and Construction Program Office, CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets and Axtel have turned to Legato AAM for keeping their business critical applications available and ready in the event of planned or unplanned downtime.

"Recognition from customers in the industry is an honor and is the ultimate "seal of approval" for the products that won," said Kim Paulsen, Group Publisher, SQL Server Magazine. "The SQL Server Magazine Readers' Choice Awards were started as a way for readers to choose and recommend the best technology products in the industry. The awards program gives readers the opportunity to voice their opinions and for leading technology companies to receive the recognition they deserve."

Readers were asked to vote on their product preferences in 10 broad technology categories. The ballot included the following categories: Business applications, Business intelligence products, Development tools, Disaster prevention recovery, Hardware, Security, Storage, SQL Server management, Training and certification, and Web-based services.

"We are honored to receive the Readers' Choice award for best clustering solution," said Mark Lewis, Executive Vice President, EMC Software. "The award demonstrates that a broad spectrum of users is recognizing our emerging products outside of our flagship backup and recovery products. Legato AAM helps customers maintain service levels when facing planned or unplanned downtime that can affect the availability and accessibility of core information. As a result, customers can proactively avoid downtime and run their businesses more efficiently, productively and competitively."

"Few people know more about the best values in SQL Server-related products and services than SQL Server Magazine readers—the people who actually use the products and buy them on behalf of their organizations," said Kathy Blomstrom, editor, SQL Server Magazine. "By voting for their favorite products and services, our readers have rewarded excellence in the SQL Server market."
