    Dell EMC Cap First Year Of Alliance With Worldwide Manufacturing Agreement

    Dell to Build New Dell | EMC CX200 Systems; 1,500 Customers Deploy Dell | EMC Systems in First Year

    Austin, Texas and Hopkinton, - October 28, 2002 -

    Dell and EMC today marked the one year anniversary of their strategic relationship with the announcement of a worldwide manufacturing agreement and a new entry-level storage system designed to make storage area networks (SANs) more accessible and affordable for a wider range of customers.

    Under the agreement, Dell will manufacture the new Dell | EMC CX200 storage system in its facilities in Austin, Texas; Limerick, Ireland; and Penang, Malaysia. EMC will continue to build its full line of CLARiiON storage systems, including the new CX200, at its Apex, N.C. and Cork, Ireland facilities.

    In the past year, more than 1,500 customers have purchased Dell | EMC storage systems, representing incremental business for both companies especially among small- and medium-sized businesses, government and educational customers. Major customers deploying Dell | EMC solutions include The Bombay Company, Computer Sciences CSC Ltd., Cox Communications, Mercedes Benz, Reckitt Benckiser, United States Military Academy, West Point, University at Buffalo/The State University of New York, and Warburg Dillon Read.

    Executing on All Fronts: Products, Services and Sales

    During the past 10 weeks, Dell and EMC have brought to market three new storage systems, the Dell | EMC CX600, CX400 and today's new CX200 storage array, addressing a full range of storage requirements. Dell has also integrated its PowerVault™ network-attached storage (NAS) systems with SAN Gateway functionality for Dell | EMC SANs, enabling customers to combine NAS and SAN resources for greater capacity and scalability.

    Dell has also ramped storage Professional Services to simplify the buying, deploying and support of SANs. Today approximately 75 percent of Dell's storage planning, design and implementation services are offered as standard services. Dell Professional Services and EMC Global Services also will continue to collaborate on customer engagements when appropriate, and leverage established Dell SAN Centers of Expertise to assist businesses in their Dell | EMC deployments.
