Comdisco Offers Security for Vital Business Information

Joint Service with EMC Corporation Provides Cost-effective, Enhanced Data Protection and Application Availability to Ensure Business Continuity

    Rosemont, - April 26, 1999 -

Comdisco, Inc. (NYSE: CDO) today announced its new Availability Services offerings with EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC), providing customers with crucial enhanced data protection and ensuring application availability to prevent debilitating business interruptions. These new business continuity services leverage Comdisco's expanding worldwide infrastructure and support the company's strategy to diversify offerings to meet customers' growing technology services demands.

The Comdisco Availability Services offer a critical level of security, especially in business practices where transaction integrity is essential, such as ERP, e-commerce, financial systems, and data warehousing. The new services utilize high performance network capability and EMC Corporation's Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) with multi-hop technology to improve the cost effectiveness and performance of customers' application and data availability.

To ensure security, customer data is replicated and stored locally, then forwarded to one of Comdisco's 14 national and international strategic facilities, particularly when a business application is rendered unavailable due to hardware, network or database failure. The result is the industry's broadest geographic implementation of availability services.

"These new services, with our upgraded infrastructure, are significant in our ongoing quest to provide customers with a complete suite of information availability services," said Jeff Keohane, president of Comdisco's Technology Services Division. "Today, even a brief disruption of a customer's systems can easily put millions of revenue dollars at risk. By working with EMC, we are providing our customers both the services and infrastructure to protect information that is vital to their day-to-day operations."

Comdisco and EMC will work together to provide customers an integrated solution that combines EMC Enterprise Storage systems and SRDF with a multitude of exemplary Comdisco offerings, such as implementation services; contingency planning services; business continuity operational facilities and expertise; technology infrastructure, and CCSNET(TM) SONET-based communications network. The two companies will also collaborate on marketing and sales activities, share technical knowledge and establish future direction to ensure rapid delivery of the world's most robust availability and business continuity services.

"Both EMC and Comdisco are recognized leaders in IT services," said Michael C. Ruettgers, chief executive officer of EMC Corporation. "Through our continued collaboration, we're ensuring that customers worldwide have access to the innovative solutions they require to meet their growing availability needs."

Comdisco pioneered availability services in 1989 to provide customers with solutions for advanced business continuity in the event of a business interruption and has supported more than two dozen data recoveries using these advanced solutions. Comdisco has offered point-to-point EMC SRDF mirroring since 1997, currently supporting more than 25 terabytes of customer data.
