Dell Technologies works closely with groups like the Responsible Business Alliance and other initiatives to respect and protect workers at every stage of our supply chain, their communities and local environments.


    • Labor

      Supporting suppliers and their employees’ communities

      Dell Technologies support and respect every worker in our supply chain and the communities they live and work in. We’re committed to treating all our employees with dignity, upholding their rights and creating positive, safe working environments in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

      Appropriate working hours

      We require all suppliers to abide by the Responsible Business Alliance standard of a maximum 60-hour work week, at least one rest day and no mandatory overtime – as a minimum – or comply with local laws, whichever is stricter. We’ve also implemented a working hours monitoring program to help us track performance and compliance with our expected standards.

      Protecting the most vulnerable from exploitation

      We do not tolerate any form of forced, bonded or child labour at any stage in our supply chain. Our Vulnerable Worker Policy helps us protect the most vulnerable and explicitly ban behaviors that may indicate a risk of human trafficking (including forced or bonded labor) or child labour. In the unfortunate event that an offense is discovered, we work closely with the supplier to identify the root cause of the issue and take all necessary action to fix the problem. This can include paying back recruitment fees, and/or having the supplier pay for the victim’s return home and medical expenses.

       

      We also have zero tolerance for incidents of slavery or human trafficking in our supply chain. Read our statement in support of the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act and the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015.

      We’re not afraid of feedback, in fact, we welcome it

      At Dell Technologies, we work hard to maintain open communication between workers in our supply chain and their management teams. Our worker hotline allows employees to contact us directly and express workplace grievances without having to go through their supervisors, providing them with a safe space to express their concerns. What’s more, we’re continually helping our suppliers build trust and positive relationships with their teams with ongoing training and open, honest dialogue.

      Enriching lives, at work and outside of it

      Many workers along our supply chain come from remote provinces in their home countries seeking new opportunities and life experience. We don’t take their time, talent or work ethic for granted and make an effort to enrich their day-to-day lives as much as possible. That’s why we’ve set up a freely accessible messaging platform where we publish content designed to enrich worker’s lives, helping them develop new hobbies and supporting their career development.


    • Health and Safety

      Building safe working conditions at every stage of our supply chain

      We’re committed to creating safe environments for workers across our supply chain, minimising risks and having the right procedures in place to avoid or resolve issues quickly. Our manufacturing facilities are OHSAS 18001 certified and we require our suppliers’ final assembly facilities to have OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 certification. Non-final assembly facilities are encouraged to have those certifications as well.

       

      We closely monitor the use of any substances that might pose a risk to workers or their local environment. Our Manufacturing Process Chemicals Program allows us to strictly manage the handling of hazardous materials across our entire supply chain. Our suppliers adhere to clear guidelines detailing the precautionary measures, trace chemical approval processes and regular risk assessments we expect.

       

      Dell Technologies takes our corporate social responsibilities seriously, and is an active contributor to the Responsible Business Alliance’s Chemical Management Taskforce as well as being a leading member of Green America’s Clean Electronics Production Network.

      Engaging the workforce in health and safety practices

      We conduct regular audits assessing occupational hazards across our supply chain in combination with routine employee surveys to raise awareness of health and safety issues amongst our workforce. What’s more, we offer a dedicated mobile training programme featuring targeted courses and a wealth of information on important health and safety topics. Over 35,000 workers completed our mobile courses last year.
